Fish Creek, Wis. (August 15, 2024) – Fishstock Concert Series has announced that the 8th concert of its 2024 season will feature an August 18th performance by jazz vocalist Janet Planet.
“The blend of Janet Planet’s voice with her excellent band creates a powerful listener experience of both jazz and standards,” said concert promoter Steve Ellmann. “Janet can sing sweet and pretty – but she can also come on strong with a big voice that never wavers out of control.”
Janet Planet is a six-time WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) award winner and in 2014 was inducted into the WAMI Hall of Fame. Her international performances include events in Japan, Europe, South Africa and Russia. In 2017 this exemplary vocal artist was nominated for a Grammy. Janet is a performer, producer, teacher, recording artist, voice-over talent and part of Lawrence University’s jazz faculty, in Appleton.
The 10-concert Fishstock Concert Series focuses on offering the best live music in several varieties of acoustic genres, said concert promoter Steve Ellmann. Reserved seating tickets ($25) are available for advance purchase at Door County Tickets: doorcountytickets.com/organizations/fishstock-music-series. Both reserved and general admission tickets can be purchased on show nights (cash or check only) at the Fishstock ticket booth, which opens at 6:00 pm. General admission tickets are $20.
To attend a Fishstock concert, drive down County Hwy F, east of Fish Creek and close to the intersection with Maple Grove Rd. You’ll notice a big white barn on the south side of the highway covered with colorful letters dubbing it “Fishstock.”
The 100-year-old Fishstock concert barn is one of Door County’s most unique performance locations. What began in 1985 as a venture in employee housing evolved into the site of Sunday night folk, Americana and alternative music concerts. The Series is a combination of some of the area’s best local musicians and bands with visiting favorites. There are once again ten energized Sunday evenings of great music this season.
Fishstock seats 200 in the ground-level indoor area and an additional 200 in the outside seating area. Both concert areas feature independent state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, creating a personal and rustic setting for performers and audiences alike. A digital projection system with a 10 ft. screen relays the stage views to the outdoor seating. Prior to each show, acclaimed local guitarist George Sawyn will play in the outside seating area from 5:30–6:45 pm, and tailgating by patrons is encouraged.
