Fish Creek, Wis. (May 16, 2025) – Come to Noble Square, located in downtown Fish Creek, and take a step back in time. On May 25th, beginning at 10:00, the Arachne Spinners Guild of Door County and Alpaca to Apparel will set us up for a fun, “Living History Event.” The spinners will be doing demonstrations in the Gazebo, and Ben Kornowski will be shearing alpacas. Both will be interesting and fun. This is a perfect event for the whole family. Have you ever been to a shearing event? Have you seen how yarn is made? Bring your kids and let them experience these unique activities.
This fascinating and educational event is a must-see for animal lovers, fiber enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the alpaca industry. Whether you are an animal lover, a fiber enthusiast, or simply looking for something unique to do this holiday weekend, Ben Kornowski’s alpaca shearing demonstration is an event you will not want to miss.
The Door County Spinners guild will demonstrate the process of transforming animal fiber into yarn and the several types of finished products that can be created. See old-fashioned spinning wheels and learn about the terms: combing, crimping, whorl, worsted, and woolen. Learn how animal fur can be processed into a roving, a twisted strand of fiber prepared for conversion into yarn. Many things to take in and understand, the skill involved, and the amount of time. The Spinners will give an up-close demonstration of spinning yarn, making socks, and even knitting.
This is not just a show, but an interactive experience where you can learn and even try to spin. Ben Kornowski’s shearing is an educational experience and a celebration of sustainable farming and craftsmanship. By participating in this tradition, visitors will gain insight into the care of alpacas, the value of their fleece, and the incredible work that goes into creating luxurious alpaca products. Traditional skills are passed down through generations and continue to be practiced today.
We hope to see you on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend for this fun event at downtown Fish Creek and become part of “Living History” at Noble Square.
