Katherine Hastings, a local Door County author, has released her newest romance novel, The Big One. This romantic comedy follows the journey of Ellie and Liam, who met one summer in Door County and reconnect ten years later. The novel transports readers between Italy and Door County, and fans of Door County are sure to recognize many local landmarks.
The Big One starts off ten years after Ellie came to Door County to work a summer before college. While scooping ice cream at Wilson’s in Ephraim, she meets a European boy who was visiting for the summer. Their one week romance ended when they parted ways for college, but ten years later, Ellie can’t stop thinking about the one that got away.
With the encouragement of her meddling wingmen and a few too many cocktails, Ellie reconnects with Liam online and then does the craziest thing she’s ever done in her well-planned life. She hops on a plane to visit him… in Italy.
While Ellie ends up on the adventure of a lifetime, she and Liam must figure out if their Door County summer romance was just puppy love, or if they really are meant to be.
“I had so much fun writing a novel partly based in Door County,” Hastings said. “I love introducing people to my little world, and The Big One really gave me that chance. It was wonderful getting to sit on the edge of Anderson Dock and watch a Door County sunset while writing a scene set in Ephraim where my characters were watching one of our famous sunsets. It felt like they were right there with me.”
The Big One is the sixth romance novel by Hastings, and the first in a string of romantic comedies all set in Door County that will start coming out summer 2019.
“The Big One is a standalone novel, partially set in Door County, and partially set in Italy. My next novels, the Door Peninsula Passion Series, are all entirely set in Door County. Each of these lighthearted and romantic reads will take place in a different Door County town. The Big One was a great way to step readers who aren’t familiar with Door County into our world, and then they can stay here a little longer while reading Door Peninsula Passions.”
The Big One released on May 22 and is available digitally on Amazon and in Kindle Unlimited. Paperback copies can be purchased at major online retailers and will soon be available in several Door County stores. The Other Half (Door Peninsula Passions Book One) will release on June 27, 2019.
