Local Nonprofits Invited to Be Part of “A Glimpse of Christmas Past” at Heritage Village

October 6, 2026 by Laurel Ciohon

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (October 6, 2026) – The Door County Historical Society is inviting local nonprofit organizations to join in the holiday spirit—and raise funds for their missions—during A Glimpse of Christmas Past, returning to Heritage Village this December.

A Glimpse of Christmas Past transforms Heritage Village into an old-fashioned holiday celebration, with the historic buildings decorated for the season and visitors invited to experience the warmth, traditions, and nostalgia of Christmases gone by.

As part of the celebration, the Historical Society is currently accepting applications from Door County nonprofit organizations interested in adopting and decorating one of the historic buildings at Heritage Village. Participating organizations will put their own creative spin on Christmas past, decorating their assigned building and helping create a festive experience throughout the Village.

But there’s a little friendly competition involved, too.

During the event, visitors will be invited to “vote” for their favorite decorated building by making a monetary donation. Each dollar donated counts as one vote. Nonprofits are encouraged to invite their members, supporters, friends, and families to visit Heritage Village, enjoy the festivities, and cast their votes—early and often!

At the conclusion of the event, proceeds collected at each building will be split 50/50 between the participating nonprofit organization and the Door County Historical Society. The building receiving the most votes will also earn bragging rights as this year’s A Glimpse of Christmas Past decorating champion.

The program is designed to make the holidays a true community celebration while providing local organizations with an opportunity to increase awareness of their work, connect with new audiences, and raise funds for their missions.

Participating nonprofits will be responsible for decorating their assigned historic building in keeping with the spirit of the event. Organizations are encouraged to be creative, involve their volunteers and supporters, and help spread the word throughout the community.

Space is limited and nonprofit organizations interested in participating are encouraged to apply soon. Organizations can visit our website at doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org, call 920-421-2332 or email office@doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org

Additional details about A Glimpse of Christmas Past, including event dates, hours, activities, and admission information, will be announced by the Door County Historical Society as December approaches.

Heritage Village is located at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay.
