Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (March 3, 2025) – The next presentation of the Maritime Speaker Series is Thursday, March 6 at 7pm: Lumbering to Yachting: The Evolution of Anderson Dock by Jeff O’Keeffe.
The Anderson Dock and Warehouse is without a doubt one of Door County’s most recognized landmarks. Over its 166-year history, the dock has changed and evolved in use significantly. In this talk, Ephraim Historical Foundation Curator and Collections Manager Jeff O’Keeffe will guide the audience through three significant periods of use, from acting as a communal pier for forestry products, welcoming some of the county’s first tourists, to acting as a clubhouse for one of the oldest yacht clubs on the Great Lakes.
Jeff O’Keeffe is the Curator and Collections Manager at the Ephraim Historical Foundation. Hired at the beginning of 2022, he has opened two exhibits in the Anderson Barn Museum, Smorgasbord: Foodways that Defined Ephraim and Through Their Lens: Unseen Images from the EHF Archives. His recent research delves into historic piers and structures on the shores of Eagle Harbor, as well as the early local lumbering operations which manned and inhabited them.
Each Fall, Winter and Spring, the Door County Maritime Museum hosts experts and interesting characters from around the country for the Maritime Speaker Series (presented in partnership with series sponsor Door County Medical Center).
The Maritime Speaker Series offers an assortment of monthly programs – from historical topics to current issues affecting the Great Lakes and the economy that relies on them. Maritime Speaker Series programs are the first Thursday of each month, beginning at 7pm, on the second floor of the Museum and online. No cost to attend; suggested donation of a non-perishable food item, or if watching online, we ask you to make a donation to your local food pantry.
