Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (February 16, 2024) – Each Fall, Winter and Spring, the Door County Maritime Museum hosts experts and interesting characters from around the country for the Door County Maritime Speaker Series, presented in partnership with series sponsor Door County Medical Center. The Maritime Speaker Series offers an assortment of monthly programs – from historical topics to current issues affecting the Great Lakes and the economy that relies on them.
The next presentation of the 2023-2024 Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series will be held both in person and online on Thursday, March 7 at 7pm, featuring Freshwater Fisheries: Migratory Fish in Door County, presented by Dr. Karen Murchie, Director of Freshwater Research at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.
Dr. Murchie will present on the migratory fish research that she does in Door County – specifically on suckers. Karen Murchie has a diverse background in freshwater and fisheries research. One of her research pieces aims to discover how humans impact freshwater fish species migratory patterns.
The Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series programs are the first Thursday of each month, October through May, beginning at 7 pm, on the second floor of the Museum, and online. No cost to attend; suggested donation of a non-perishable food item, or if watching online, we ask you to make a food donation to your local food pantry.
