Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (March 24, 2020) – The Door County Maritime Museum (DCMM) is closely monitoring the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus situation and implementing our Emergency Response Plan that outlines specific recommendations to meet the standards and recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control.
With Governor Tony Evers asking residents to stay at home in his “Safer at Home” order, out of an abundance of caution we are closing our doors to guests for now. In addition, we are significantly limiting the number of staff in the office, and cutting office hours as well. Museum administrative staff will be working from home and available via their personal work email addresses. If you have a question or business with the Museum, please utilize the Museum e-mail address: info@dcmm.org The main phone number is (920) 743-5958 if you wish to call and leave a general message.
Group events originally scheduled to happen in the Museum over the next few weeks are being re-scheduled or canceled. Please check with the Museum or your organization for additional details. Updates will also be posted to the Museum website (www.DCMM.org) and social media channels (#dcmaritime).
“We are proud to be a part of this great maritime community,” said DCMM Executive Director Kevin Osgood. “We thank you for your understanding as we all move through these next few, challenging weeks.”
As our community transitions to a “new normal” during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Door County Maritime Museum wishes to continue to fulfill our mission to preserve and celebrate the rich maritime history of Door County and the Great Lakes. We want to continue to educate and engage our community, especially our area school-age population, currently dislocated from their routine, classrooms, teachers and peers. The Museum is working to make our educational resources available online as quickly as we can.
We are pleased to start with our Shipwrecks of Door County exhibit. Beginning March 23rd and continuing through March 30th, we will share the stories of eight Door County shipwrecks, with a 9am intro to a vessel. At 3pm, the video highlighting the final voyage of that vessel goes public.
