The March 1, 2018 from 7-8pm, Door County Maritime Museum Maritime Speakers will be Barb and Ken Wardius, life-long residents of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They have traveled statewide and nationally and pursued their hobbies of photography, reading, hiking, bird study, history and in recent years, lighthouses, which first drew their interest in picturesque Door County. They began accumulating photos of lighthouses and then actively searched them out, climbing them and writing their stories, willingly assisted by the people they met along the way. They have authored four excellent books on lighthouses. Barb and Ken lead lighthouse tours and are sought after lighthouse lecturers, offering presentations that reflect their lighthouse books.
Door County boasts one of the highest concentrations of lighthouses of any county in the United States. With its lengthy coastline, much of it rocky and treacherous, mariners of long ago relied heavily on these beacons for safe travel. All of the county’s lighthouses will be featured, with special emphasis on Cana Island—Door County’s most visited lighthouse. Archival and contemporary photography highlights the presentation.
Thanks to Bridgeport Resort for their sponsorship of the March 1 Maritime Speaker Series featuring Barb and Ken Wardius.
