Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (August 18, 2020) – On Monday July 27, Marjorie Aurelius, age 6, and her mother, Lauren Aurelius, visited the Door County Cooperative Country Store to stock up on supplies for their new Goldendoodle puppy, Rue, that was gifted to them through the Make-A-Wish Foundation earlier in July.
Through Make-A-Wish, Marjorie received a Door County Cooperative account with $500 that they can use toward puppy supplies, toys and food. They enjoyed browsing the isles of leashes, dog food, toys and beds with help from the staff who were overjoyed to help Marjorie and Lauren select various toys and accommodations for Rue. They even chose a sampling of treats from the Dog Treat Buffet at the Country Store.
Marjorie was born with a traumatic brain injury that has resulted in numerous health issues. They’ve made several changes in the last year, including different medications that have made it possible for Marjorie to interact more with her environment and her new puppy Rue is enriching her life in ways only a puppy can.
You might recognize the Aurelius family’s story from the 2019 Tales of Our Lives storytelling event hosted by the Women’s Fund of Door County in Sturgeon Bay, WI. The Aurelius family was connected to the Make-A-Wish Foundation through the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
The staff at the Country Store is looking forward to more visits from Marjorie and they are hoping to meet Rue soon.
