Birch Creek celebrates the Valentine’s weekend with an evening concert of Broadway’s favorite love songs featuring Tenor and Birch Creek Alumnus, Jonathan Zeng. On Saturday night, February 15, Zeng will be joined on the Juniper Hall stage by his ensemble of Diana Stoic (soprano), Michael R. Oldham (piano) and Jackson Kidder (bass). With favorite duets of Rodgers & Hammerstein, such as “I Have Dreamed” and “We Kiss in the Shadow” from The King and I,to newer classics like “Take Me As I Am” from Jekyll & Hyde, you will feel the love in the air.
The evening begins at 5:30pm with social time followed by delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres and light desserts prepared by Culinaria, served at 6:00pm. A cash bar is open throughout the evening. The concert begins at 7:00pm.

Jonathan Zeng is a critically acclaimed tenor lauded for his versatility as a performer and accomplished in Musical Theater, Opera, Oratorio and Concert repertoire. He has performed throughout the United States with companies such as Cincinnati Opera, Central City Opera, Tulsa Opera, Opera Memphis, Utah Festival Opera, and the Princeton Festival. With a voice described by Chicago publications as “valiant”, “stunning”, “vibrant”, and “rich”, Jonathan is based in Chicago and has appeared as soloist with The William Ferris Chorale and with the Grant Park Symphony Chorus among many other roles.
Soprano Diana Stoic is a versatile performer who has sung with many musical organizations and operatic companies across the Midwest and Chicago-area, including the Mount Prospect Community Band, DuPage Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Des Moines Metro Opera, and in The Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel.
Michael R. Oldham, piano, is a composer and pianist who weaves artwork, story, and imagination into his work. Whether experimenting with looping videos on Instagram as the “parts” of a piece that anyone can play (Music in Segments – 2018), utilizing repeating gif images of old silent films as inspiration for a twelve-movement work (Music In Gifs – 2017), or translating great works of art into music (The Egon Schiele Pieces – upcoming), Michael’s thirst for unusual storytelling through music is never quenched.
Jackson Kidder, bass, is an upright and electric bassist and vocalist based in Chicago, IL. He performs frequently in Chicago as a sideman, and tours nationally with funk/soul group Bassel & the Supernaturals.
Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, WI, is a residential summer music academy for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day, and perform alongside them in concerts at night. Four summer sessions focus on Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz. Proceeds from all Birch Creek events and concerts provide support for Birch Creek students.
