Opportunities for Absolute Beginners to Advanced Writers
Juddville, Wis. (April 29, 2024) – Whether you have never put words to paper before or have an active writing habit for years, Write On has new educational opportunities for you during the month of May. Workshop tuitions vary and scholarships are available.
Channeling the Ancestors: Writing to Discover Family with Deborah Adelman will help beginning and seasoned writers develop a sense of voice and self by exploring the lives of past family members. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their own story and history by writing about the past. The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 4, 9 am – noon, at Write On, 4210 Juddville Road, Juddville. Tuition is $60.
A free workshop on nature writing will be offered in collaboration with the Friends of Newport State Park. Perfect for those new to writing, the workshop will be led by Renata Golden, a poet and essayist from New Mexico, whose work has been included in numerous nature anthologies, including Dawn Songs: A Birdwatcher’s Field Guide to the Poetics of Migration. The session is Tuesday, May 7, 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the nature center in Newport State Park, 475 County Road NP, Ellison Bay.
Explore options for getting your work out into the world with To Publish or Self-Publish: That Is the Question with best-selling author Liza Wiemer. This online session will explore everything from query letters to polishing your manuscript and finding an agent, as well as options and practical advice for self-publishing. The session meets virtually Tuesday, May 14 6:30 – 8 pm. Cost is $30.
For those who have been writing for a while, take a deep dive into generating new poems through The Rapture of Being Alive: Writing from the Whole Self with award-winning poet Donna Hilbert. This week long class will be part discussion of exemplary poems and generating new material. Tuition is $220. The class meets Monday through Friday, May 20 – 24, 9 am – noon at Write On.
