Ephraim, Wis. (December 18, 2023) – New Year’s Eve is traditionally one of the most festive nights of the year, but how it’s celebrated is a little different for everyone. For Door County, it’s coming together in Sister Bay for the 7th annual fm 106.9 the Lodge Cherry Drop™. The midnight countdown, akin to other ball-drop events, falls on a Sunday evening and is expected to draw quite a crowd.
The giant six-foot, 300-pound cherry adorned with lights will be suspended roughly 120 feet above Husby’s garage for the countdown on December 31st as revelers celebrate with the Greatest Party Tunes of All Time at ground zero, on air, and online with the Lodge. “This is year lucky number seven, and despite the great crowd that amasses, it still feels like we’re just having a big party with a few friends” said Mike Mesic, the station owner. “Last year’s mild weather was beneficial for the strong turnout but it doesn’t seem to matter in the end,” said Jaime Forest, cherry handler. “I think we’ll have an exceptionally boisterous group this year with the scheduled Packer game on.”
Supporters and sponsors are excited for the evening. Trilliant Diamonds and Jewelry is planning a special announcement. Revelers will enjoy the extra special attention and a brand-new release from a Wisconsin favorite, Leinenkugel’s, as the New Years Eve party is also the launch for their Lakeside Cherry, a beer inspired by Rose Leinenkugel. Central Standard Distillery returns showcasing exceptional cocktails with their Cherry Vodka, created with Door County cherries, as the official spirit of the Lodge Cherry Drop.
The Village of Sister Bay invites everyone to come shop, dine and see the holiday light displays and, at 8 pm the annual fireworks at the Sister Bay Sports Complex. Ground zero party activities begin at 10:30 pm, leading up to the midnight Cherry Drop™. Families to party-goers are encouraged to rsvp at the fm 106.9 the Lodge Cherry Drop™ Facebook event for updates leading up to the New Year.
