Fish Creek, Wis. (October 31, 2022) – One of the top emerging artists in bluegrass, Door County resident Nick Dumas will perform with his band Branchline on Wednesday, November 30, in the opening concert of the White Gull Inn’s winter concert series. Dumas has recently released his most ambitious album to date with “Details”, demonstrating why he is one of the most diverse singular talents in the industry today.
Born and raised in Washington State, Dumas was raised in a musical family and constantly surrounded by music. He first developed his bluegrass chops with his family band Three Generations. Later he stepped out with other musicians and founded the high energy group Northern Departure, and subsequently co-founded the band North Country. In 2014, Special Consensus, one of the most prominent bands in bluegrass, hired Dumas as one of the lead singers and mandolin player. His first performance with Special Consensus and his introduction to Door County was at the White Gull Inn. Dumas, who now resides in Door County, toured the globe with the Special Consensus and recorded two albums, including one album that was nominated for a Grammy and also won the IBMA “Album of the Year” award in 2018.
In 2019, Nick put out his first album independently which received rave reviews and spent a significant amount of time on the bluegrass radio charts. In spring of this year, Nick signed with Skyline Records, releasing his second album titled “Details,” which demonstrates his musical diversity, maturity, and composing ability. Further, “Details” contains a roster of heavy hitting musicians and songwriters.
Nick Dumas will be performing with Branchline, which consists of himself on lead vocals and mandolin, IBMA Momentum Award winning Carley Arrowood on fiddle and vocals, Daniel Thrailkill on guitar and vocals, Will McSeveney on banjo, and Jed Cordwell on bass.
An optional pre-concert fixed price dinner will be served at 6 PM. The menu consists of Beef Bourguignon over mashed Yukon Gold potatoes, winter greens, apple and fennel salad with cider vinaigrette, Door County apple cake for dessert.
The White Gull Inn series debuted in 1984, with monthly concerts November through April. According to White Gull Innkeeper Andy Coulson, the early inn performances were roughly designed after house concerts, which are usually held in the home of someone who provides lodging, dinner and breakfast and takes up a collection at the door for the artist. Although not technically a house, The White Gull had the rooms and the meals, Coulson said. Before long, the series gained popularity and began attracting in artists such as Tom Paxton, Bob Gibson and John McCuen. “It took a while, but the artists who came the first few years liked being here in winter and spread the word,” Coulson said Nearly 200 musicians have performed at the inn during the
previous 37 seasons. Other award-winning artists who have appeared at the inn include Molly Tuttle, John McCutcheon, Claire Lynch and Robbie Fulks.
Future concerts scheduled in the series feature the Wisconsin bluegrass group Third Coast Bluegrass on January 11, and Johnsmith and Dan Sebranek on February 22. Other pending concerts will be announced in the next few weeks.
Tickets and more information on the concerts and the optional dinners can be obtained by calling the White Gull Inn at (920) 868-3517 or accessing the inn’s website, www.whitegullinn.com. If still available, concert tickets can be purchased at the door, although many concerts sell out, so advance ticket purchase and reservations for the pre-concert dinners are recommended.
