Sister Bay, Wis. (March 31, 2023) — A striking need in Northern Door was apparent from the first two gatherings of Northern Door Cancer Support. Some attendees were asking for immediate support, others were overwhelmed by their efforts to provide support to others on their own, while many were hoping to connect with any existing services in Northern Door to ease the burden of cancer. All had one thing in common: a personal understanding of the many ways cancer can impact the patient and their family…not only financially, but physically, emotionally and spiritually.
This was the impetus for the April 5th launch of an informal support group immediately following the monthly community lunch on Wednesdays at the Moravian Church of Sister Bay. All are welcome to share in this meal, then participate in a casual—but confidential—exchange with others either undergoing treatment, successfully navigating as survivors, or volunteering to offer comfort to others as professionals and/or survivors themselves. The group will begin at about 12:30 pm for those opting out of the meal.
