Fish Creek, Wis. (September 26, 2022) – Northern Sky Theater is pleased to announce the 2022 recipients of the Northern Sky Werner & Sue Krause Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students pursuing a degree in theater or music performance who exhibit a love for theater or music performance and have participated in the performing arts throughout high school.
This year’s recipient of a $2500 scholarship is Owen Ensign Foulds.
Owen is a graduate of Sevastopol High School and will attend the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee this fall, majoring in Musical Theater, with his sights set on a professional acting career. Owen’s fist memory of attending a play was with his parents when they couldn’t find a babysitter. It was Shakespeare. They said if he needed to leave they could, but he enjoyed the entire show and realized he was watching something special. His love of theater had begun. From that point forward he participated in theater events throughout his school years both at school and within the community including Door Shakespeare and Third Avenue Playworks. He has been cast in lead roles, has had featured solos, and received recognition for both theater performance and band.
Recipients of the Northern Sky Werner & Sue Krause Scholarship are selected based on their participation in the performing arts while in high school, as well as their GPA and other criteria.
As patrons of performing arts organizations throughout the state, Werner and Sue Krause have long supported the performing arts and the joy they bring to audiences young and old. Sue passed away in 2021 leaving Werner to carry on the tradition.
In 2022, Werner expanded the scholarship opportunity by allowing past recipients to reapply in their second, third, and fourth years of college education, provided they are still pursuing a degree in the performing arts.
“The performing arts play an integral role in the economic success of Door County,” stated Northern Sky managing director Dave Maier. “We have always fostered the education of new artists through our workshop process and intern program. This generous scholarship allows us to recognize the achievements of those students who are pursuing a future in one of the most important drivers of the tourism industry.”
The mission of Northern Sky Theater is to create, develop and present professional musical and dramatic productions that will further the knowledge and appreciation of the culture and heritage of the United States.
