Open Door Bird Sanctuary, launching into its third season, has announced the start of its hours for the 2018 season, which begin June 23. Visit the sanctuary every Saturday from June 23 through September 1 (plus on the holiday weekend days of Sunday, July 1 and Sunday, September 3).
A new Open Door Bird attraction is the Small Bird Mews, which features the sanctuary’s smallest residents and includes Ginger, an American Kestrel who is new to the group. The summer of 2018 will also feature a Celebrate Water Program each month, which revolves around the sanctuary’s water-centric birds and highlights some special aspects of the property as well.
Open Door Bird Sanctuary is open from 12-4pm and features an exciting program at 1pm with optional guided trail hikes at 2:30pm. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy pre- or post-show and make an afternoon taking in the amazing resident birds of prey on exhibit, hands on artifacts, and the property’s unique landscape.
Rain or shine, Open Door Bird Sanctuary is the only wildlife attraction like this one in Door County, so don’t miss the chance to see hawks, owls, falcons and even a turkey vulture up close and maybe flying right over your head!
Open Door Bird Sanctuary is located at 4114 County Road I near Jacksonport. The entrance fee for adults is $7, kids’ fee is $4. Phone: 920.493.BIRD.
