Open Door Bird Sanctuary’s Newest Resident, Winter Open Days

March 13, 2023 by Laurel Ciohon

Jacksonport, Wis. (March 13, 2023) – We are so excited to announce our newest resident to Open Door Bird Sanctuary! He is a somewhat elusive bird who occasionally sneaks into Wisconsin mostly during the winter, but you will often find him during the day. He has a mystique about him and a strong symbology of imparting inner wisdom and transformative change. Who is this special bird you ask? He is a Snowy Owl and we were so fortunate to bring him in from a rehab facility in Minnesota.

We are launching “NAME THAT SNOWY OWL” and would love to hear your ideas! Please send your name submission to jillaine.burton@opendoorbirdsanctuary.org on or before March 31. We will award the winner 2 ODBS passes and an ODBS clothing item of their choice, pending availability.

On Saturday March 18 from 11-4pm, come enjoy the serenity of Open Door Bird Sanctuary and meet our Snowy Owl during our 5th annual “Winter Open Days.” Enjoy our trails for a snowshoe, cross-country ski (bring your own equipment) or hiking excursion. We have just about 2 miles between all 3 trails, all fairly level and traversing various landscapes. The trails are not typically open to the public outside of sanctuary hours, so this is a great chance to not only explore a new spot, but also to visit our amazing raptor residents!

Our raptors love the winter and you will too when you get to enjoy our natural beauty and birds. This is the only time of year where we have a bonfire going and later in the afternoon we feature feedings and a guided trail hike, too.

Warm beverages, cool artifacts and all things ODBS fill the Nature Center.

Adults $10. Age 5-12 $7. Under 5 Free. www.opendoorbirdsanctuary.org
