This dynamic concert invites audiences to embark on a thrilling exploration of the string quartet’s evolution—from the elegance of Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet, Op. 76, No. 5, to the rhythmic vitality and contemporary spirit of Jessie Montgomery’s Voodoo Dolls, culminating in the passionate intensity of Johannes Brahms’ String Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 51.

About the Griffon String Quartet

Formed in 2018 and based in Door County, Wisconsin, the Griffon String Quartet is an affiliate of Midsummer’s Music dedicated to sharing the transformative power of chamber music through performance, education, and community engagement. Known for their expressive artistry and adventurous programming, the quartet connects with audiences of all ages, enriching lives through music that inspires, uplifts, and unites.

Autumn Music Fest, running from October 4 to October 19, presents six unforgettable concerts featuring world-class musicians from around the globe. Showcasing extraordinary talent, the festival brings together artists with credentials from Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, China National Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Symphony, Lincoln Center Auditorium, Phoenix Symphony, Sarasota Orchestra, and the Stoughton Music Festival, among others.

Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
