PenArt Makes Art Available Online and at Home

March 17, 2020 by Laurel Ciohon

Peninsula School of Art (PenArt), 3900 County Road F, Fish Creek, responds to the shut down of local schools and organizations by offering art education and appreciation opportunities online and creating free “art kits” for local families.

“The heart of our mission is to teach art and create community around the visual arts.” said says PenArt Executive Director Catherine Hoke. “If we can’t welcome people to our campus, we need to find other ways deliver these services.”

Beginning this week, PenArt will be posting a family-friendly art project on their Facebook and Instagram pages each Friday. For local families, they will create a free “art-kit” with instructions and all necessary supplies. Kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the entrance to the School beginning at 10am on Fridays for drive-by pick up. This week’s project is a colorful sculpture project and future projects will include drawing, mixed media, and environmental art – to support families getting outside together. PenArt encourages everyone to share their completed projects online.

In addition to Friday family projects, PenArt will be sharing weekly creativity challenges for artists on Thursdays, with an opportunity to share finished challenges online; virtual gallery tours, demonstrations, and videos for art appreciators (or e-learners) on Tuesdays; and Mondays will be devoted to beginners and those just wanting to learn something about art and art making for the first time.

“Art is a great street reliever, and vital for human connection. We will continue to do what we can to support our community and families.” says Hoke. All challenges, projects and videos will be available via social media. A weekly round-up email will also be sent to those interested in joining the mailing list.

The Peninsula School of Art campus will be closed to the public through April 19. Offices, staff and summer/fall registration information are available by calling 920.868.3455 or emailing info@peninsulaschooofart.org.  Additional information on these and other programs can be found at www.PeninsulaSchoolofArt.org.
