Peninsula Pet Tip of the Week: Dangerous Foods for our Pets

June 9, 2020 by Laurel Ciohon

Every now and then, we may be tempted to give our pets a table scraps or two. However, there are a number of foods that we ingest that are actually quite dangerous for our pets.

Most already know that chocolate and caffeine aren’t safe, but did you know that avocado, can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs? Birds and rodents may even experience congestion, difficulty breathing, and fluid accumulation around their heart!

Some other foods that are less known as a dangerous to pets are: salt, milk, onions, garlic, chives, and yeast dough. The list goes on and on, so it’s best to stick with foods that are meant for your pet instead of giving them part of your meal.

If you suspect your pet has eaten any dangerous foods, please call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.
