Peninsula Pet Tip of the Week: Pet Obesity

May 19, 2020 by Laurel Ciohon

Pet obesity is a growing problem that tends to creep up on pet owners. When frequent inclement weather limits your walks or the amount of tasty treats increases, we tend to see an influx in overweight pets. It can be challenging to determine if your pet is overweight, so it is best to talk to your vet about what your animal’s ideal body weight is.

If your furry friend is on the heavier side, your vet can help determine an appropriate plan to get your pet back on track with a tailored diet and exercise plan. These plans are not “one size fits all” and they will take into account your pet’s age, breed, and any medical conditions. Just like in humans, obesity can cause a number of other health issues, so it is best to keep your pet in healthy shape!
