Fish Creek, Wis. (May 11, 2022) – Peninsula School of Art (PenArt), 3900 County Road F, Fish Creek, and fellow arts organization Write On Door County will present a free Community Open House on May 21. Each organization will offer a series of programs to celebrate the visual and literary arts throughout the day. All events are free and open to the public.
Peninsula School of Art will begin the day with Family Art Day from 9am-Noon. Taking a cue from the current Guenzel Gallery exhibition, Dynamic Duos, families will work together to make whimsical plants inspired by the work of artist duo Chiaozza. Participants will create colorful painted papers, then cut and exchange pieces to paste into vibrant vegetation from their imagination.
From 11am – 2pm, Peninsula School of Art will host artist demonstrations in painting, drawing, printmaking, metals and ceramics. Attendees can watch the artists in action, take a self-guided tour of the updated campus and sculpture gardens, listen to live music and enjoy outdoor games on the Great Lawn.
“Both PenArt’s newly updated campus and the Write On Door County campus are incredible assets to Door County and we wanted to be able to share all that we have to offer with the community before the start of the season. Anyone is welcome to visit, walk our trails and partake in programs, we are not just for established artists and writers, but our community as a whole.” said PenArt’s Executive Director, Catherine Hoke.
Simultaneously, Write on Door County will host three events during the day on their campus. From 10am-6pm, visitors can participate in a Hike and Write and explore the trails of Write On and do some writing along the way. Themed activity booklets guide visitors and inspire creativity. The half-mile hike is ideal for families, groups of friends, as well as individuals looking for a beautiful, creative outdoor activity.
Also beginning at 10am, the Write On invites the community to visit the writing center, enjoy light refreshments, explore their library, and find inspirational writing prompts for all ages. From 5 – 7:30 pm, the International Poetry Potluck returns after a two-year hiatus. The theme for this potluck is the Middle East. Participants are asked to bring a Middle Eastern dish to share, as well as a poem by a Middle Eastern poet or about the Middle East.
