“Play It Forward” Returns to DCA, Honors Pete Thelen

November 20, 2025 by Laurel Ciohon

Fish Creek, Wis. (November 20, 2025) – On Saturday, November 22, at 7 p.m., Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will bring the “Play It Forward” concert tradition to back to the DCA stage. Bringing together many of Door County’s best-loved musicians to benefit a worthy cause, Play It Forward celebrates the generous spirit of the peninsula’s community: all the evening’s performers donate their time and talent, and audience members in turn make freewill donations toward a good cause.

This year’s concert honors longtime Play It Forward organizer and performer Pete Thelen, who died earlier this year. Donations collected at the concert will benefit Fountain of Fellowship, an organization founded by Thelen. Fountain of Fellowship describes it mission as “to feed, clothe and shelter our less fortunate brothers and sisters, and to help protect our planet.”

This year’s Play It Forward lineup includes performances by Rob Roy Campbell, Hans Christian, Zephyr Ciesar, Katie Dahl, Julian Hagen, Nick Hoover and Jess Holland, Jeanne Kuhns, Ben Larsen, John Rood Lewis, Mark Raddatz, Dorothy Scott, Billy Dave Sherman, Paul Sowinski, Spike & April, Thor Thoreson, Wild Horses with Johnny O, and musical director Paul Taylor.

A tradition that began in 2013, the Play It Forward concert series reflects the best of Door County life, including the peninsula’s tight-knit community and vibrant music scene. The annual performance was inspired by the life and legacy of Bo Johnson, a young Sister Bay resident who died of leukemia in 2012.

Play It Forward will take place at DCA at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 22. There is no charge to attend, but freewill donations are encouraged and will go to the Go Bo! Foundation. DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. More information is available at (920) 868-2728 or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
