Juddville, Wis. (May 26, 2020) – Write On is proud to partner with the Playwrights’ Collective to present a virtual critique group for playwrights and scriptwriters to gather and discuss their work. Join us twice a month to discover what the group is doing or to hear your work read aloud. The first virtual meeting is on June 1, 2020 from 6-8pm.
This group is presented free of charge and is open to writers of any experience level, adults and high school students. The group will meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 6pm, starting Monday, June 1 and ending Monday, October 19. Participants will be provided Zoom access information to join the group, and are welcome to join at any scheduled meeting in the season. Group meeting dates are June 1, 15; July 6, 20; August 3, 17; September 7, 21; October 5, 19.
The group is facilitated by Paulette Laufer, a playwright, and Richard Carlson, a director, actor and former educator. Both hold M.F.A.’s in Dramatic Art (playwriting) from the University of Iowa, and have extensive theatre backgrounds professionally and educationally, including many years in the Washington, D.C., area. Since becoming residents of Sturgeon Bay in 2015, they have taught playwriting labs at Third Avenue Playhouse.
About the Playwrights’ Collective
Paulette Laufer, a writer, launched the Playwrights’ Collective in June, 2017, as an ongoing way for area playwrights to have the important step of hearing their scripts read aloud and gain from feedback and insights from others in the collective. This is a process-oriented group that has met seasonally in the Inside/Out Theatre space at the Margaret Lockwood Gallery. This season, with support from Write On, the collective returns as a virtual group. This is a new adventure but will follow the same basic structure. Writers have the option of volunteering for a meeting date for the group to read their work: short plays, long one-acts, or multiple scenes from a longer script are preferable to start. Specifics on emailing your work will be provided. Paulette is hoping to turn the virtual aspect of the Playwrights’ Collective into an added advantage by inviting an occasional “special guest” with experience in the process of new plays to share their thoughts with the group.
