Baileys Harbor, Wis. (October 2, 2023) – Give your poetry a creative boost during a five-day workshop Oct. 22-27 at the Björklunden retreat center in Baileys Harbor, Door County Wisconsin. The workshop is led by Bruce Dethlefsen, the 2011-12 poet laureate of Wisconsin.
During the workshop, participants will spend three hours each day learning what makes a “good” poem, how to set tone and rhythm, practicing reading poetry aloud, and peer review poetry, among other things. The 425-acre lodge is surrounded by natural beauty and art that is sure to inspire. Lodge guests enjoy ample time to enjoy the campus and surrounding Door County community; meals are provided. For those staying elsewhere, there are “commuter” (lunches and one dinner included) and “auditor” (tuition only) options available as well. All participating poets will be invited to read their work during an evening program.
Dethlefsen released his fourth book of poetry, Losing Purchase, in 2023. In addition to being a former poet laureate of Wisconsin, he is a retired teacher and public library director, and volunteers in Wisconsin prisons doing poetry workshops.
