Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you. —Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Fall is full of exciting new opportunities at Write On, with many programs focused on those who identify as readers more so than writers. Whether it is celebrating a new book, hearing authors talk about what inspires them, or discussing a book you loved (or didn’t!) with like-minded souls, there is something for you at Write On.
Celebrate Good Books—and Other Forms
This month, we will hold several conversations with writers and other creatives. Martha Egan, whose ties to Door County are deep even though she makes her home in New Mexico, will offer a coffee and conversation on Saturday, September 6, at 10:30 am. She’ll be discussing her forthcoming novel, The Little Devils of Door County, which is sure to resonate with many who either live here year-round or visit seasonally. On Tuesday, September 9, 4 pm, local author Judy DuCharme celebrates the publication of her latest children’s book, Growing Up Green and Gold. The book is a celebration of everyone who loves the Packers, no matter their age!
We are pleased to partner with Door Kinetic Arts Festival on a conversation with screenwriters Rick Cleveland and Chris Nee. Among their credits are “The West Wing,” “Mad Men,” and “Doc McStuffins.” We are grateful to present this unique opportunity to our community.
Great Lakes/Great Books Returns
Our long-running book discussion group, Great Lakes/Great Books returns this month for its 11th year. Not bad considering Write On is in its 12th year! Although the first meeting of the new season was yesterday, there are great books coming up, including The Light is Ours by Ann Heyse, The Long-Shining Waters by Danielle Sosin, and Too Much Sea for their Decks by Michael Schumacher.
A Big Day for Readers
It is still possible to register for the Saturday-only option of the Washington Island Literary Festival. Saturday, September 20, is the day for readers, starting with a panel discussion in the morning followed by individual presentations by our five featured presenters: poet Heather Swan; nonfiction writer Marcia Bjornerud; and fiction writers Nickolas Butler, Dionne Irving, and William Kent Krueger. If you are book lover, this is a day you don’t want to miss.
Consider a Book Club Membership
Write On offers a special membership for book clubs, as well as writing groups. For just $75 a year, your book club can meet regularly in our Library Classroom. The coffee is always on and, in the winter months (and the occasionally chilly summer day!), the fireplace is going. And on beautiful summer or fall days, discussions can always take place in one of our lovely outdoor spaces, including the Olson Family Memorial Council Ring.
You don’t need to be a writer to find something for you here at Write On. You just need to love books and the written word in all its forms!
