Award-Winning Author of Last Summer on State Street Featured at Write On, Door County
Juddville, Wis. (September 3, 2024) – Write On, Door County will host award-winning novelist Toya Wolfe on Saturday, September 14, at 1 pm. The reading by the best-selling author of Last Summer on State Street is free and open to the public. The reading takes place at Write On, 4210 Juddville Rd., Fish Creek. Light refreshments will be served.
Toya Wolfe grew up in the Robert Taylor Homes on Chicago’s South Side. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing at Columbia College Chicago. Her writing has appeared in African Voices, Chicago Journal, Chicago Reader, Hairtrigger 27, and Warpland: a journal of Black Ideas. She is the recipient of the Zora Neale Hurston-Bessie Head Fiction Award, the Union League Civic & Arts Foundation Short Story Competition, and the Betty Shifflett/John Schultz Short Story Award. Her debut novel, Last Summer on State Street, was published in 2022 to wide acclaim.
The novel was a finalist for the PEN Open Book Award and won the Chicago Writers Association Book of the Year Award. Last Summer on State Street was a Stephen Curry Underrated Literati Book Club Pick and named a Best Book of Summer by Good Housekeeping, Chicago Magazine, The St. Louis Dispatch, Chicago Tribune, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and others.
