Settlement Shops Offers More Than Just Shopping
By Laurel Ciohon
Pulling in to the parking lot at Settlement Shops, I was happy to find their weekly Wednesday Farmer's Market in full swing. As I searched for a parking spot, I caught a whiff of fresh pie wafting through my window from Sweetie Pies Bakery and made a mental note to stop in for slice before I left. Once I found a spot, I grabbed my dogs from the back seat and we weaved our way through the busy outdoor market.
I'm a plant lover, so right away I spotted a woman selling plants. "Buy One, Get One Free!" her signed read. Sold! I immediately picked out some succulents, including a large aloe plant, and beautiful leafy plant to add to one of my outdoor hanging baskets. I quick put them back in my car before heading back to find more treasures.
Logan Creek Soap, fresh juice and pea greens from the Kitschinn Juicery, handmade Door County gifts, fresh made burritos, local fruit and veggies, and stunning framed photography. Live music was playing in the background and the sun was shining brightly. It was truly a perfect Door County day.
I tried my dogs up to a tree and headed in to some of the permanent stores located at Settlement Shops. Leslie Ann's Boutique offers higher-end, beautiful resale clothing for women, including one-of-a-kind screen printed totes, shoes, jewelry, purses, and scarves. Fish Creek Moccasin Works, formally located in the Founder's Square Shops, has handcrafted leather goods made on site, including handbags, belts, sandals, and gifts, in addition to their well-know moccasins. Soul Journey Designs has unique, handmade lamps and energy-inspired art. Bianca has a great selection of cute earrings and pendants, along with a variety of clothes, accessories and gifts. Great Northern by Design's home accessories are nestled in a cozy post and beam building. Emmett Johns Art Gallery offers everything from gorgeous portraits, to colorful abstracts, to Door County landscapes.
Besides shopping and the farmers market, the Settlement Shops also boasts a massage studio, and, as mentioned earlier, a pie shop. Shanti Studio Massage & Healing Arts provides therapeutic massage and Reiki healing in a calming, peaceful studio. Sweetie Pies makes best possible homemade pies using the simplest methods and ingredients. That day, I opted for my favorite, a slice of classic Door County cherry pie! My day at Settlement Shops was definitely a success.
