The Sister Bay Advancement Association has awarded the 2019 Sister Bay Volunteer of the Year award to Ashley Lusk. Ashley is the founder of Homebody Personal Training, offering one-on-one in-home and studio fitness training, specializing in helping elderly residents in Northern Door County. The youngest of nine siblings, Ashley grew up in Dykesville and has been a Door County resident for 10 years. She and her fiancé, Tyler Frykman, are currently busy planning a May 2020 wedding.
Ashley, in partnership with Barney Willems and his family, volunteered her time to organize the first (and future) Barney Fun Run in Sister Bay. The event, now in its third year, honors Barney and celebrates his strength and positive attitude in the face of a traumatic life event. Ashley felt that Barney didn’t always get the recognition he deserved and having people join him on his daily run would be a great way to do just that.
In addition, Ashley’s work with her elderly clients also lead her to creating the website DoorCountyHomesharing.com, an alternative housing source which matches up people looking for housing with those who are interested in providing rooms in exchange for help with errands and other daily activities.
To honor her service to the Sister Bay community, Ashley will ride as the Parade Marshall in the 74th Annual Fall Festival Parade at 11:00 on Saturday, October 19.
In addition, the Sister Bay Advancement Association will make a contribution in her name to the charity of her choice.
Thank you to all of our volunteers, especially Ashley! Your help and dedication help to make our community a better place to live.
