Sister Bay Advancement Association Announces 2023 Volunteer of the Year: Kathy Wagner

October 2, 2023 by Laurel Ciohon

Sister Bay, Wis. (October 2, 2023) – The Sister Bay Advancement Association is proud to announce that Kathy Wagner has been named the 2023 Sister Bay Volunteer of the Year. For over 25 years, Kathy has been active with philanthropic and community-based non-profit organizations in and around Sister Bay.

Kathy is a member and past President of PEO, (Philanthropic Educational Organization) a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships and grants and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

Through the University of Wisconsin, Madison, School of Nursing, Kathy was part of a group who for 2 terms , mentored students through a 2-week immersion program on rural nursing here in Door County. Kathy also joined the Northern Door Health & Wellness Ministry parish nurse cooperative and helped with the distribution of Matthew 25 funds.

During the Coronavirus outbreak, Kathy was an active member of the Door County Fire Chiefs COVID Response Team, doing community outreach, and working at vaccine clinics.  She has volunteered at Scandia Village in Sister Bay for over 20 years, and recently served on the Scandia Village Task Force.

Kathy has served on the Door-Tran board both as a member and past President for three years. She also volunteers to drive for the Door-Tran Countywide Ride Program. Kathy is an active member of the Sister Bay Moravian Church and Meals on Wheels, helping with Community lunches, acting as Parish nurse, and delivering meals and as a social companion for those in need.

Kathy is on the board of Do Good Door County, serving as Board Secretary, and is also

on the Steering Committee for newly created The Village Model for Sister Bay/Liberty Grove.

To honor her service to Sister Bay and the broader Door County community, Kathy will ride as the Parade Marshall in the 77th Annual Fall Festival Parade, driven by her partner JoAnne Morris. The Sister Bay Advancement Association will contribute, in Kathy’s name, to the non-profit of her choice, Do Good Door County.

We thank all our volunteers, especially Kathy who do so much to make our community a better place to live.
