Door County, Wis. (January 29, 2024) – Popular Door County musicians Katie Dahl, Jess Holland, and Jeanne Kuhns will join Chicago’s Jenny Bienemann for two Door County concerts: at Third Avenue Playworks (TAP) in Sturgeon Bay at 7:30 p.m. on February 10, and at Kick Ash Coffee in Ellison Bay at 1 p.m. on February 11. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.katiedahlmusic.com. Advance ticket purchase strongly recommended.
Jenny Bienemann, Katie Dahl, Jess Holland, and Jeanne Kuhns are Midwestern songwriters with loyal fan bases and multiple accolades to their collective credit. Though they normally perform individually, at TAP and Kick Ash they will share their songs in an intimate “in-the-round” format, commenting on and adding texture to one another’s work. Dahl, Holland, Kuhns, and Bienemann are firmly rooted in the folk tradition, with songs that roam freely to explore country, jazz, and rock traditions.
Jenny Bienemann is a touring, Chicago-based singer/songwriter whose music has underscored TV, film, and theater projects, and whose critically acclaimed albums garner international radio play. Her music has been described by Andrew Calhoun of Waterbug Records as falling “somewhere between winking innocence and worldly detachment.” Bienemann teaches at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and performs frequently in Door County.
Nationally touring songwriter Katie Dahl “combines old-fashioned populism, an abiding love of the land and wickedly smart love songs, all delivered in a rich and expressive alto” (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). Known for the intelligence and vulnerability of her songs and the easy humor of her live performances, Dahl also has five studio albums and two original musical plays, Victory Farm and The Fisherman’s Daughters, to her credit. Wisconsin Public Radio calls Dahl “the real deal.”
Jess Holland is one of Door County’s favorite performers, a sensitive guitarist and vocalist who plays a thoughtful blend of original songs as well as compositions by her favorite songwriters. Holland regularly performs throughout Door County as part of the popular duo Deathfolk. The combination of her soulful voice and expressive guitar and banjo playing infuse her folk music with elements of blues, pop, and old-time country.
Jeanne Kuhns writes songs that are fusion of folksy blues and gentle rock, wrapped in her brand of progressive folk. Crow and Wolf Music calls Kuhns “sonically and stylistically something of a mix of Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell and an acoustically inclined Bonnie Raitt.” Kuhns is a fixture in Door County’s music scene but tours nationwide, often performing with her band Small Forest. She was voted best Female Musician by Door County Magazine readers in 2008.
The songwriters will also be performing in Berwyn, IL on Friday, February 9. Seating for all three concerts is limited. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged. For more information, visit katiedahlmusic.com.
