Southern Door, Wis. (April 22, 2021) – LEAP 2021: The Human Kindness Project will be presented this year in a virtual format on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 7pm.
As an alternative to the customary live performances done for the past 7 years by youth from the county’s high schools, LEAP 2021 features a very special group of LEAP Alumni who created individual performances while in isolation. Each performer was asked to address how they and their peers were coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. They had the choice of using original dance, spoken word, monologues, visual arts, and musical talents to tell their story. The young adults whose passion, commitment, creativity, and incredible talent are featured in LEAP 2021 include: Jackson Blahnik, Lizzy Fiscus, Rachel Follingstad, Sophia Friedenfels, Marley Gigstead, Moriah Grahl, Kole Mallien, Josie Morkin, Sierra Nicole Sargent, Isaiah Spetz, Jaydin Stahl, and Jadacey Teska.
LEAP (Learning to Empower and Appreciate all People) was inspired by Terry Lundahl and Dorothy Scott, in their role of developing community outreach program for “Youth & Positive Mental Health Awareness” and sponsored by Door County Medical Center. LEAP provides a violence-free message and challenges prevailing attitudes toward acceptance and social injustice. The performances are dedicated to encouraging positive thinking, passion, and personal growth through movement and the performing arts and multimedia imagery. The project creates a platform that empowers young artists with the knowledge, compassion, and understanding necessary to create works that address the most pressing issues facing today’s youth. Performances transform the artists, their peers, and their audiences.
