Southern Door, Wis. (February 24, 2022) – The Southern Door County School District is proud to announce that it has selected Mark Jonas as the new Varsity Football Coach and Administrative Athletic Director, starting in July, 2022. Coach Jonas has an incredible resume, and brings years of successful experience and knowledge to our program.
Jonas started his coaching career in 1985 as an assistant coach in Reedsville. He then spent 11 years as the assistant varsity coach in Hilbert, attaining two state championships. Coach Jonas took over the Head Coaching position in Oconomowoc (4 years), Kaukauna (5 years), and Ashwaubenon (9 years). Mr. Jonas is also a 2022 Hall of Fame Inductee.
We are extremely proud and excited to have Coach Jonas join our team at Southern Door! He has the knowledge and experience needed to help our program achieve new heights. In addition to his football knowledge, he also has a passion for fitness and weight training that will impact all students in all sports.
Jim Smasal, Interim Athletic Director, had this to say, “I am ecstatic with the hiring of Mr. Mark Jonas as the Varsity Football Coach and Athletic Director. This fulfills one of the main goals that we established when I first joined the district, which was to attract an experienced candidate to meet the long term needs of the district.” Mr. Smasal voluntarily resigned his position, effective June 30th, as soon as Mr. Jonas accepted the position at Southern Door, and will be continuing on at the district in a consulting capacity.
