By Visit Fish Creek
Sure, Fish Creek is a popular destination for summer vacation. But have you ever visited in spring?
Whether you’re looking for action-packed weekend, a chance to reconnect with nature, or a cozy hideaway for a few days of quiet, Fish Creek offers endless opportunities to reconnect with your family and friends while enjoying a week of unforgettable, one-of-a-kind adventures.
Here are a few activities to consider as you’re planning your own “Spring Break”:
Explore Your Inner Artist
Fish Creek is teeming with opportunities to explore the arts — and even try your hand at creating your own work! Offering daily DIY projects and classes by appointment, Hands On Art Studio is a unique destination for an immersive, free-wheeling art experience that puts you in the artist’s chair. Choose from a wide variety of projects — ceramics, fused glass, jewelry, mosaic, and a wide selection of canvases, wood, glass, and metal pieces to paint! Be sure to check their website for special Spring Break hours and events.
For a more structured and educational art experience, Peninsula School of Art is offering several one-day classes this spring on mediums like pen and ink sketching, screen printing, drawing, and more. Be sure to also check out their full slate of summer workshops, which begin in mid-June.
Make It a Pizza Night
After an afternoon of flexing your creative muscles, you’re going to be hungry. And, whether you take it to go or dine in, Wild Tomato’s wood-fired pizza is the perfect comfort food lunch. Even though the restaurant changed ownership in late 2023, you’ll still find all your favorite topping combinations and specialty pizzas (are you Team Old School or Team Green & Gold?), plus an assortment of fresh salads and tasty apps (get the bread basket. Seriously, trust us) and a full drink menu featuring wine, ciders, and a wide range of craft beers.
Reconnect With Nature
It’s no secret that one of Fish Creek’s gems is Peninsula State Park—but our charming village is home to some beautiful town parks as well! Nestled along the bay and the woods, these municipal green spaces—with waterfront views, quiet hiking paths, spring flowers, and perfect picnic spots—offer a full morning or afternoon of park-hopping fun.
So Much Shopping!
We may be a bit biased, but we think the coolest souvenirs are found in Fish Creek. Known for its eclectic assortment of shops, boutiques, and galleries, shopping in Fish Creek offers treasures for every style, budget, and occasion.
Take Door County Rock & Gem, for example. Featuring crystals, fossils, jewelry, and unique decor, this shop offers an experience not to be missed—whether you’re a rockhound looking to add a new specimen to your collection or you simply want to learn some fascinating geological facts.
And though it may not be beach weather quite yet, Beach People, also located in Founders Square, will outfit you with all the vacation souvenir essentials. Browse a large selection of Door County apparel, beach jewelry, Door County Goat Milk Soap, framed art, coastal home decor, and more.
For a truly delectable souvenir, head to DC Chocolate Design located at the Top of Hill Shops. Here husband and wife team Cole and Kara Vanderleest create decadent chocolate delights, each handmade and hand-painted from Kara’s own recipes. Pair your chocolate with one of their specialty coffee drinks for midday pick-me-up that’s pure decadence. Check out this recent article from the Peninsula Pulse about this awesome business!
Time to Unwind
After a full day of eating, shopping, and exploring, it’s time to head back to your home away from home. If you’re staying at Apple Creek Resort, Parkwood Lodge, or Homestead Suites, you can relive your favorite moments of the day poolside. All three lodging establishments offer guests an indoor pool and whirlpool, plus their convenient locations make it easy to access all your favorite Fish Creek activities all week long!
