Have you noticed any changes throughout Sturgeon Bay recently? Twenty-five embellished, adorned, and enhanced, benches have decorated the streets and businesses around Sturgeon Bay. This public street art project is the third Benches by the Bay program presented by the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center and Associated Bank. Benches by the Bay is the city’s 3-dimensional art project which is showcased on the streets and public areas throughout Sturgeon Bay in the summer. Local and Midwest artists have the option to use a templated, cedar bench made by John Rosenthal and Glen VanderVelden, or creating a free-form bench of their own. All benches are sponsored by Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center member businesses.
The benches will be auctioned off at the Street Art Auction following Harvest Festival, Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 5 p.m. at Martin Park. Proceeds from the auction benefit the artist and public art in Sturgeon Bay. If you are interested in buying a bench, but are unable to attend the live auction on September 15, you may submit an absentee bid by calling the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center at (920) 743-6246.
Visitors and residents are encouraged to sign the blue, graffiti bench outside of the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center office (36 S. 3rd Ave.). Cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center. A map of bench locations are available at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center and Sturgeon Bay businesses.
