Sturgeon Bay, WIis. (April 10, 2025) — From April 21–25, 2025, the Door County YMCA is proud to participate in Five Days of Action®, a national initiative designed to raise awareness and empower adults to take action in preventing child sexual abuse.
With summer on the horizon and children preparing to take part in camps, programs, and outdoor activities, this campaign is a timely reminder that we all play a role in creating safer spaces for kids. The Door County Y invites individuals and organizations throughout the community to join this critical movement to ensure children can grow, learn, and thrive in safe, supportive environments.
“The children of Door County deserve joyful, carefree childhoods—and it’s our shared responsibility to protect that right,” said Tonya Felhofer, CEO of the Door County YMCA. “By participating in the Five Days of Action, we hope to inspire a wave of awareness and action across our community, reinforcing the importance of child protection.” Throughout the week, the Door County Y will share resources, safety tips, and ways families and community members can get involved. The campaign supports the Y’s ongoing commitment to youth development and child safety as a cornerstone of all its programs.
In addition to offering community-wide education, the Door County YMCA staff annually completes three hours of Child Abuse Prevention training. This year, for the first time, the YMCA’s Board of Directors will also participate by completing a Volunteer module, further strengthening their awareness of YMCA policies and reinforcing how they can support this vital mission.
Together, the Door County YMCA and its community partners are working toward a safer, brighter future for every child in Door County.
