We just had a string of unseasonably warm days here in Fish Creek. Of course, feeling the sunshine on our faces immediately turned our thoughts towards summer…which naturally led us down the path of planning the perfect summer day in Fish Creek…which then made us realize just how much there is to see and do and experience right here!
Whether your ideal day in “The Creek” is filled with the arts (both visual and performance), good food and wine, the great outdoors (by land or water), shopping, history, or one-of-a-kind experiences — Fish Creek has it all, conveniently located in the heart of the peninsula.
To springboard your summer vacation plans, we took the liberty of putting together the “Ultimate Day Trip” itinerary to inspire your summer plans in Fish Creek. With so much to explore, we won’t be surprised if you decide to extend your stay a day—or week—longer!
The Ultimate Day Trip
There’s something transformative when you descend the Highway 42 hill into the heart of the village. Magically, all of life’s stressors seem to evaporate. You’ve arrived at your little slice of heaven on earth and you’re ready to make the most of the day.
Morning: If you’ve arrived early in the day, you’ll want to fuel up with a delicious late breakfast or brunch. In that case, White Gull Inn, Pelletier’s, Shiny Moon Cafe, Julie’s Park Cafe or Blue Horse Beach Cafe have you covered with plenty of options to keep you satisfied (and caffeinated!) for whatever the day holds.
Late Morning/Early Afternoon: After breakfast, choose your own adventure! If you’ve brought your sea legs, book a tour on one of Fish Creek Scenic Tours daytime cruises, or be your captain with help from our friends at Northern Door County Boat Rentals. In addition to their fleet of pontoons, they can set you up with tubes, skis, and wakeboards for the ultimate afternoon of fun on the water.
If staying on land is more your speed, but you still want to see the sights, Segway the Door Tours offers a variety of fun and informative excursions, including their #1 ranked tour through Peninsula State Park. For sightseeing and a bit of exercise, turn to bike rentals at Edge of Park Bike & Moped Rental or Nor-Door Sport & Cyclery. There you’ll find all the bikes and accessories needed to take advantage of the miles of scenic trails throughout Peninsula State Park, as well as designated road routes throughout the area.
If shopping is what drew you to Fish Creek today, then you’re in luck. The free municipal parking lot behind the Town Center Community Building and Visit Fish Creek Information Center (4097 Main Street), offers ample parking all within a centralized location and a quick walk of Fish Creek’s shops, restaurants, and attractions, making it easy to park once and explore all day!
From the parking lot, you can venture up the hill to O’Meara’s Irish House and the Top of the Hill Shops, or through the historic center of the village lined with a vast assortment of gift shops, art galleries, apparel boutiques, and specialty shops.
Late Afternoon/Early Evening: If you get hungry along the way, pop into Fish Creek Market for a “Norzwich”, then grab a seat at a picnic table under the shaded canopy at Noble Square, or enjoy a waterfront view from Clark Park or the Fish Creek Beach.
Refreshed, it’s time to check off the final “must-see” attractions on the day’s itinerary. Take a drive along the country back roads to visit TR Pottery in their new location (and take home a piece of pottery or two to remind you of your visit), meander the walking path through Edgewood Orchard Galleries’ sculpture garden, and don’t forget to stop at Lautenbach’s Orchard Country to stock up on baked goods, jams, salsas, wine and other delectable treats showcasing their estate-grown fruit.
Whew! What a jam-packed day—and you’ve only scratched the surface of all Fish Creek has to offer. If you’re eager to return—and we know you are—head to VisitFishCreek.com to begin planning your next visit. You’ll even find lodging options…because we’re pretty sure next time you’ll want the good times to last a little longer.
