With the start of a new year just hours away, many people across the nation are coming up with resolutions for 2026. If that sounds like you, the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) has some great ideas pet owners could try.
Starting off simply, maybe this year you really want to get more involved in your pet’s health. Is there an annual vet checkup that you have been putting off? Are they overdue for vaccines? Or maybe it is finally time to start a healthier diet or simply cut back on treats. Small goals can have a huge impact on your pet’s health!
Health-related resolutions are frequently at the top of people’s lists. If you are looking to get more active, consider taking your animal on more walks! Extra walks can help add more enrichment to your animal’s life while giving you a way to become more active. You might even try taking your cat for a walk this year. WHS has website tips on leash-walking your feline friend!
But if you are looking to make a difference in your community this year, you might try giving back to your local animal shelter. Shelters across the state are always in need of volunteers, foster parents, donations, and supplies. If you are looking for a place to start, head to wihumane.org for more information.
At the end of the day, even if it is as big as volunteering, or as small as walking your dog an extra block, every positive change can lead to happier, healthier animals – and the people who love them!
