Birch Creek Music Performance Center is pleased to announce that tickets for the 2018 summer concert season are available for purchase at birchcreek.org/tickets. All 2018 concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. with pre-show music at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
The Percussion & Steel Band Session will showcase performances by students and faculty from June 21-23 and June 27-30, under Program Director Dan Moore, Director of Percussion at The University of Iowa. Birch Creek’s Percussion performances feature a diverse range of styles, from Caribbean grooves with internationally known Steel Pan virtuoso Liam Teague, to percussive jazz, authentic world music, and more. The Friday, June 29th Percussion concert will feature one the world’s leading percussion soloists, guest performer Michael Burritt. Mr. Burritt is Professor of Percussion and Chair of the Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion Department at the Eastman School of Music.
Symphony session concerts, under Program Director Ricardo Castañeda and Conductor Brian Groner, will run July 4-7 and July 12-14. The orchestra will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Strauss, and other classical mainstays. Special events include Birch Creek’s Annual Independence Day Concert, “Stars and Stripes Forever” on Wednesday, July 4 at 4:00 p.m. with a pie and ice cream social before the event as well as free entry for children under 11. All seven Symphony concerts are water-themed in recognition of the Celebrate Water Door County initiative.
Big Band Jazz concerts will be performed during two sessions from July 18-21, 26-29 and August 1-4, 8-11. Program Director Jeff Campbell and the Birch Creek Academy Jazz Orchestra return for sixteen nights of the best, most authentic jazz in Door County, with faculty performers from all across the country playing favorites by Ellington, Basie, and many more. Students will be featured in pre-show combo performances and big band numbers as well.
A special feature for this year’s Birch Creek concerts is participation in Celebrate Water which is an initiative of the Door County Community Foundation’s Healthy Water Door County fund. The programs for eight of Birch Creek’s academy concerts have been selected to include water-themed music that audiences love and that will bring attention to celebratewaterdoorcounty.org.
Ticket Prices are $29 adults, $10 students and $6 children, with premium seating available for $34. “3/4 Time” promotion—by 3 concert tickets and get a 4th ticket free. Group rates available for parties of 15 or more. Prelude music is held 30-45 minutes before every performance in the courtyard gazebo or in Juniper Hall. Birch Creek Music Performance Center is Door County’s Residential Summer Music Academy in Egg Harbor, WI, for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day and perform alongside them in concerts at night. Four sessions focus on Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz.
