“Toft Point: A Nature Lover’s Dream” Guided Hike Through Baileys Harbor

July 11, 2019 by Laurel Ciohon

The public is invited to join the Climate Change Coalition of Door County for “Toft Point: A Nature Lover’s Dream,” a guided hike through this pristine old growth forest in Baileys Harbor, on Saturday, July 20, from 10am– noon. Charlotte Lukes and Nick Anderson, two of the people who know this unspoiled part of Door County best, will lead the hike, sharing their deep knowledge of the forest and Toft Point’s exceptional plant communities.

Charlotte Lukes and her late husband, naturalist Roy Lukes, founded the Friends of Toft Point Inc. She was on its founding board of directors and has been a trail docent for many years. Nick Anderson, a passionate defender of Toft Point and life member of the Friends, has also long served as a trail docent.

Participants will learn about the natural riches of this incomparable site and also the inspiring history of the Toft family’s untiring work over many years to protect it.

The hike is a fundraiser for the Climate Change Coalition and will conclude with a picnic lunch. Cost is $50 per person. The hike is limited to 15 people. To register, call 715.330.4660 or email nicole@lnrp.org. Hikers will meet at 9:45 am at Ridges Beach parking lot, 2301 Ridges Road, Baileys Harbor. Lukes and Anderson will reprise this event Tuesday, August 27.

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County is a non-partisan organization that through education, outreach and civil dialogue increases public understanding of climate change and its many detrimental impacts at home and around the world. Your donation for the Climate Change Coalition to our fiscal agent, Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership, is tax-deductible as allowed by law. Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership is a 501(c)(3) organization.
