Door County, Wis. (July 15, 2026) – The Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) welcomes internationally acclaimed pianist Michelle Cann to the Door County Auditorium on Tuesday, August 18, at 7:30 PM. The two-time Grammy Award winner will headline The Viennese Legacy, an evening celebrating the sweeping beauty and emotional power of Romantic-era music.
Praised as “exquisite” by The Philadelphia Inquirer and “a pianist of sterling artistry” by Gramophone magazine, Cann has become one of the most sought-after classical artists on the global stage. Her performances with leading orchestras around the world and her Grammy Award-winning recordings have established her as one of the most respected pianists of her generation.
“Michelle Cann is one of the most compelling performers on today’s classical stage,” said Lisa Harper, President and CEO of PMF. “She combines extraordinary technical brilliance with warmth, elegance, and an ability to connect deeply with audiences. We are thrilled to welcome a musician of her caliber to Door County.”
Cann will perform Schumann’s beloved Piano Concerto in A minor, a cornerstone of the Romantic piano repertoire celebrated for its lyrical beauty, expressive depth, and joyful finale. The evening concludes with Brahms’s Symphony No. 2, often called his “Pastoral” Symphony, a radiant work inspired by the Austrian Alps and renowned for one of the most triumphant finales in orchestral music.
“Michelle has a rare ability to make every performance feel personal,” said Rune Bergmann, Music Director and Conductor of PMF. “Schumann’s concerto is filled with poetry, passion, and conversation between the piano and orchestra, and Michelle brings those qualities to life with remarkable honesty and artistry. Audiences will experience not only a brilliant pianist, but a musician who tells a story through every note.”
Beyond her classical concert career, Cann has earned international recognition for championing the music of American composer Florence Price. Her acclaimed recordings have introduced Price’s work to global audiences, helping bring renewed, well-deserved attention to one of America’s most important musical figures.
A faculty member at both the Curtis Institute of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, Cann is also the recipient of the prestigious Sphinx Medal of Excellence, recognizing artists who have made outstanding contributions to the classical music world.
Experiencing a performer of Cann’s international stature in the intimate atmosphere of the Peninsula Music Festival is a rare opportunity. The Viennese Legacy promises an unforgettable evening of world-class music right here in Door County.
