Coffee Talk with George Meyer

Composer and violinist/fiddler George Meyer will offer an inside look at the creative process behind writing new music. Drawing from his own experiences as a composer, he will discuss where musical ideas come from, what “genre” has to do with anything, how a composition develops from concept to performance, and the challenges and rewards of creating music for today’s audiences. Coffee Talk programs are free, informal presentations on music topics by ensemble members, staff, and friends.

The Trumpet Shall Sound – Midsummer’s Music

Trumpeter Ansel Norris will explore the history, versatility, and unique voice of the trumpet. From its ceremonial beginnings to its prominent role in orchestras, chamber music, jazz, and popular music, the trumpet has played an important part in musical life for centuries. Through discussion and musical examples, Norris will introduce audiences to the instrument’s capabilities, explain how sound is produced, and share insights into the techniques and artistry required of today’s trumpet players.
