The classic grace of Wickman House’s food, craft cocktails and service are being acknowledged far and wide these days, from a New York Times piece about the Moscow Mule renaissance to much more local publications. This year, owners Mike and Sarah Holmes expanded the restaurant’s vegetable and herb garden, increasing the outdoor seating (a truly beautiful setting with gazebo), and new dishes on the menu. There’s a great show inside, too, as the talented bartenders mix, shake, and pour Wickman’s unique, highly-developed list of craft cocktails.
Originally from Appleton, Mike began professionally cooking while in college, then brought his nascent skills to New York City, where he met Brooklynite wife Sarah and migrated back to familiar terrain in far northern Wisconsin. The restaurant also continues to host the Uncork Summer Food Wine Music Festival. – Jude Generaux
