Winter Weather Pet Tip Using Straw

February 10, 2021 by Laurel Ciohon

Want to make bathroom breaks more comfortable for your pet this winter? Find a bale of straw at a local farm or garden supply store to spread in a small area of your yard. A little goes a long way! It can preserve your pup’s paws for a few valuable extra minutes during dangerous temps, then covers any mud in the spring thaw! Don’t forget that straw and hay are not the same things; straw is meant for bedding/insulation, while hay is created for animal feed.

Remember, these weather conditions can be lethal within minutes; please ensure your pets are safely inside and only go out long enough to relieve themselves. For more expert pet advice, visit www.wihumane.org.
