Green Bay and Door County, Wis. (March 26, 2025) – The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) has a new way for you to find a new addition to your team!
“Benchwarmer” is the label WHS lovingly gives dogs who’ve been available for adoption longer than average. These animals receive a discounted adoption fee and an increase in promotion. Now, to get benchwarmers back in the starting lineup, WHS is excited to introduce “Benchwarmer Tryouts.”
Through this new program, you can now “try out” a benchwarmers for up to seven days to see if they’re a good fit for your home. After the week is over, you will be able to complete the adoption online and from the comfort of your own home. If, however, you decide your benchwarmer is not a great fit, no worries! Simply bring the animal back to WHS where they will rejoin the other animals available for adoption, having benefitted from time outside the shelter environment.
To get started, simply complete a foster application online at wihumane.org/foster and indicate you are interested in Benchwarmer Tryouts. Once you have been approved by the WHS foster team, simply stop by during adoption hours to meet the available benchwarmers and take home a new teammate the same day!
