Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (May 15, 2023) – The Women’s Fund of Door County hosted two sold-out performances of this year’s “Tale of Our Lives: A Story Slam” on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28 at Door County Fire Company.
Each night, 100 guests listened to the tales of five different storytellers. Thursday night featured Mel Ripp, Jeannie Hoffman, Symone Sandoval, Jeanne Kuhns and Jennifer Aldrich. Friday’s storytellers included Jess Holland, Milly Gonzales, Scout Feldman, Allison Le, and Nikki Hedeen. The evening also included a musical interlude by Jeanne Kuhns.
“Stories are what connect us to one another; it’s how we relate to each other; it’s how we know we are not alone in our experience,” said Mel Ripp, “Tales of Our Lives” committee member and story slammer, as she welcomed everyone to the event. “Tonight’s slammers…will entertain you, enlighten you, and perhaps share a perspective you haven’t considered.”
Using honesty, wit, strength and grace, the storytellers recounted tales about finding love in unexpected places; resilience during challenging times; finding their voices; and making unexpected friends.
“We would like to extend a special thank you to all of our storytellers who bravely shared their stories with our community,” said Markie Bscherer, “Tales of Our Lives” co-chair and Women’s Fund of Door County board member. “We would also like to thank our generous sponsors, The Murray Nemeckay Group and Mel Ripp of Peapod Marketing & PR Consulting; Door County Fire Company for hosting our event; Quantum Technologies and Sound Farmers for providing sound and lights; Door County Coffee, MacReady Artisan Bread Company, Scaturo’s Baking Company & Café, Get Real Café and Bluefront Café for providing refreshments; Heidi Hodges Photography for photographing the evening; and, especially, everyone who joined us for this special event.”
“Tales of Our Lives” began nine years ago and was inspired by The Moth in New York City, a nonprofit organization that hosts live StorySLAM events and produces a storytelling podcast. To date, the Women’s Fund of Door County’s “Tales of Our Lives” has shared 50 different stories with the Door County community.
