Door County, Wis. (June 19, 2025) – The Women’s Fund of Door County Child Care Initiative is supporting summer school-age programming in a big way. Doorway to Learning was awarded two grants for its Summer Camp running now through August 22nd at its Egg Harbor Road campus.

The first grant totaling $15,945 ensured that the camp participants have the equipment, project supplies, games, field trips, and materials necessary to have an exciting and educational summer. The grant also supports adequate wages for camp counselors resulting in counselors receiving a 20 percent increase from the Wisconsin average of $15.21 per hour. With quality educators and materials, enrollees ages 4- 12 are set to have an engaging summer that will set them up for a successful return to school in the fall.

The Women’s Fund Child Care Initiative also awarded a second grant, up to $25,000, for tuition scholarships for children attending Doorway to Learning’s Summer Camp. Scholarships are awarded through an application process for families at or below the 350 percent federal poverty guideline and/or childcare costs are equivalent to 20% of their household income. “With this grant, we are able to award scholarships up to $2,500 per family and for these families it is the difference whether their child(ren) can attend Summer Camp or not,” stated Kayla Lehman, Business Administrator at Doorway to Learning.

“Sadly, often times the families that cannot afford programs like ours are the families with children that benefit the most from maintaining a structured routine and continuing to build reading and math skills through the summer.” Doorway to Learning’s Summer Camp includes 11 weekly themes; activities including building rockets, erupting volcanoes, lei making, community service projects; as well weekly field trips including Hands On Art Studio, the Ridges, Door County Candle, and Cana Island just to name
a few. There are still a limited number of spots available, please call 920-818-0877 today to enroll.

Doorway to Learning provides child-centered care to foster creativity, independence and empathy through developmentally appropriate play and learning activities for ages six weeks to 12 years old.
