Sunshine House has recently been granted funds from Amber’s Last Promise to host mental health awareness sessions for their clients. Sessions will be led by Counseling Associates of Door County and will cover subjects such as Self Esteem, Healthy Friendships, Coping Skills and Suicide Awareness.

“The goal is to ensure that we are being proactive with our clients and ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to assist in the event they need it. We are here to better the lives of our clients and that involves their mental health as well.” said Mike Rabas, Director of Employment Services. There will be 8 sessions beginning Wednesday, April 1, 2020 and they will be held at Sunshine House.

Sunshine House is very thankful for this grant and looks forward to helping their clients develop a better understanding of how to deal with mental health concerns, how to receive assistance and learning coping methods for situations they may face.

Jodie Baacke, founder of Amber’s Last Promise, says, “Although we began with a focus, we’ve since expanded our mission to include advocating for individuals of all ages. We consider this cause to be so critical that we classify it a public health emergency. Our drive to diminish the stigma associated with mental health and make sure everyone understands that this is a disease.  It is a mission fueled by unyielding hope and the belief in the resilience and inherent goodness in every human being and know that every single human being deserves respect, support, and love.”

About Amber’s Last Promise

Amber’s Last Promise is a non-profit organization promoting mental health awareness and striving to eliminate the stigma associated with suffering from the many forms of mental illness. In honor of her late daughter Amber Ripple, who dreamed of providing a safe place for those dealing with mental illness, Jodie Baacke started the organization to carry out Amber’s dream of providing a safe haven for those suffering from mental illness. Amber quietly dealt with mental illness herself and at the tender age of 28, took her own life. For more information about Amber’s Last Promise, visit www.amberslastpromise.org.
