Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (August 18, 2025) – A cherished annual tradition, the Door County Beekeepers Community Honey Harvest will take place on Saturday, August 23, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay. Part festival, part educational event, the Honey Harvest offers hands-on activities, demonstrations, and fun for all ages.
To call it a harvest reminds us that beekeeping is a form of agriculture. European honeybees, like livestock, are raised and tended by humans, and their products—honey and wax—are used in countless ways.
Activities abound throughout the morning:
- At the Meadow Trail Apiary, Flow Hive honey demonstrations (with free samples!) will take place at 10:00 AM and 11:15 AM. A conventional honey harvest demonstration is also available in the lower level of the Collins Learning Center at 10:30 AM and 11:45 AM.
- Inside the Collins Learning Center, visitors can enjoy tasting honey products, including honey lemonade and mead, try their hand at making beeswax candles in the lab. In the lecture hall, Wild Ones -Door Peninsula will present documentaries and live demonstrations throughout the event.
- The Children’s Tent, always a hit with both kids and grown-ups, will feature games, art projects, and a beekeeper dress-up station—a perfect photo opportunity.
- In thePollinator Garden, the Door County Seed Library will be giving away native wildflower seeds, and an observation on the Learning Center porch will offer a safe window into the world of honeybee hives.
Proceeds from and raffle tickets will go toward local scholarships, and all visitors are guaranteed to leave with a deeper appreciation for bees and their vital role in our community.
This event is free and open to the public.
