Trumpeter Ansel Norris will explore the history, versatility, and unique voice of the trumpet. From its ceremonial beginnings to its prominent role in orchestras, chamber music, jazz, and popular music, the trumpet has played an important part in musical life for centuries.
Through discussion and musical examples, Norris will introduce audiences to the instrument’s capabilities, explain how sound is produced, and share insights into the techniques and artistry required of today’s trumpet players. Audience questions are welcome.
Coffee Talk programs are free, informal presentations on music topics by ensemble members, staff, and friends.
